Job Description

Who is QAL?

Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) is an accomplished airport operator which owns and operates Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach airports – connecting the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales, and regional Queensland, to the rest of Australia and beyond. Our company has a vision to be the first-choice gateways for the regions we serve, creating valuable connections and inspiring a sustainable future. We have been formally recognised as a ‘Great Place to Work – Certified’ organisation four times and recently were awarded a Work180 accreditation as a champion for gender equity for the second year in a row.

There has never been a better time to join us.

What you’ll contribute to:

We are looking for a full-time Media & Communications Coordinator to join the QAL Strategic Communications team. This role assists with media and social media content, internal communications, corporate publications, sponsorship deliverables and general team administrative duties. The Media & Communications Coordinator is responsible for drafting materials, monitoring media, coordinating events/invitations and ensuring timely and accurate communication across all relevant platforms, helping to enhance QAL’s reputation and brand.

Melanie, who joined our QAL team as a Marketing Coordinator in 2022 and has since moved into the Marketing Officer position shares her unique experience working with us below:

“I joined Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) in October 2022 as a Marketing Coordinator, after spotting a job ad while working as ground crew for Jetstar in the terminal. I’d just finished my Bachelor degree in Communications and Journalism and knew I wanted to stay in aviation, but step into a role where I could use my degree and be creative. QAL felt like the perfect fit.

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to grow my skills, take on meaningful projects and contribute to work that supports the bigger picture. From social media planning and strategy to content creation and larger initiatives like our website redevelopment project – there’s always something new to learn and do. I love the balance of creative thinking and hands-on execution.

The flexibility here has also been a huge benefit. There’s a strong sense of trust and support. Being able to shift my hours or work from home when needed has made a big difference to how I work and feel each day.

But the best part? The people. The team is genuinely lovely – supportive, passionate and always ready to have a laugh or lift you up when you need it. It’s a place where you feel motivated, supported and valued.”

How will you make an impact?

The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of experience in corporate communications, media relations, or public relations, with proven ability to draft high-quality written content across a range of channels. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to create and edit engaging content across multiple channels. Exposure to event coordination or sponsorship is desirable but not essential. A self-starter with a proactive mindset and confidence in their own abilities is highly valued.

Key deliverables/responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Draft and support in the creation of engaging multimedia content for media releases, internal communications, the QAL Annual Report, award submissions and speaking notes/preparatory materials
  • Prepare first drafts of media releases, media responses and social posts for review by the Media & Communications Manager
  • Undertake media phone duties during work hours, ensuring reliable coverage and timely response to enquiries
  • Support delivery of QAL’s sponsorship commitments, including branding, signage and reporting requirements
  • Assist with coordinating events, filming, photography and interviews

What we offer you?

This is an opportunity to be part of a progressive organisation with a great culture and assist in the transformation and growth of the business. Flexible working options are available for all employees. At QAL, we uphold the philosophy that the smooth integration of life and work benefits all. We call it ‘Living Well’.

QAL supports an inclusive approach and values diversity within the workplace. We aim to provide opportunities that allow individuals to reach their full potential regardless of their background, gender, age, work status, religious or cultural identity. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be required to adhere to QAL’s Drug and Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP), which includes pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and have the ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
