About the Role:
As the Senior Advisor Health and Safety – Projects, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the health and safety of all personnel involved in our infrastructure and construction projects. You’ll work closely with internal teams, contractors, and regulators to ensure compliance, drive continuous improvement, and foster a proactive safety culture across all project environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance & Risk Management
- Develop and implement project-specific health and safety plans.
- Maintain risk registers and conduct audits, inspections, and testing.
- Provide monthly reports and updates to senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, ISO 45001, and Australian Standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Review contractor safety documentation and manage interface inspections.
- Lead incident investigations and liaise with regulators.
- Represent the business in project meetings and safety forums.
- Monitor and manage contractor compliance with permits and safety protocols.
Project Support & Continuous Improvement
- Support the GM Property & Infrastructure with safety insights and updates.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in WHS practices.
- Collaborate with internal teams to enhance safety tools and procedures.
Workplace Health, Safety & Environment
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with the company’s Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
- Participate in training and support aviation safety and security requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Diploma or higher in Work Health and Safety.
- 5+ years’ experience in WHS roles on major construction projects.
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation, ISO 45001, and high-risk work environments.
- Experience working with Principal Contractors.
Desirable:
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
- Experience in aviation, airport, or tourism industries.
Skills & Attributes
- Ability to support multiple projects at once.
- High resilience and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities.
- Confident in negotiation and assertive when required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat.
- Proficient with high-risk construction activities.
- Experienced with leading and managing Contractors.
